In June 2016 I started paying attention to the birds in my yard and neighbourhood. These posts are essays about the birds I noticed during the next year, June 2016-June 2017. The essays began as messages to my classmate at high school, Rich Dawson. Soon they took on a life of their own.

The “Meeting House” in the title is the Friends (Quaker) Meeting House in Victoria, BC, Canada. My wife Sherryll and I have been blessed to live at the Meeting House and care for it over the past decade.

The “valley you might never notice” in the title is the watershed of Bowker Creek, our local urban stream and storm sewer.

The photographs with the posts are of local native plants in habitat that people are taking care of.

I hope these essays can find their way to people who will enjoy them.
